Former serial champion Bamberg down – “Embarrassing”

For the time being, the former basketball series champion Brose Bamberg has reached its sporting nadir. After the 78:81 defeat of the Upper Franconians against the Kosovo representative Golden Eagle Ylli, coach Oren Amiel publicly asked for forgiveness.

“It was an embarrassing performance and I want to apologise to the fans. This is not what we want to show them. They didn’t deserve a game like that,” the coach said after Wednesday night’s disappointing FIBA Europe Cup defeat.

Amiel launched into a general criticism of sorts after the defeat in front of his own crowd. “We’re not playing well, we’re not even close to the level we should be at, that everyone expects from us. It’s no time for self-pity now, but we have to see how each and every one of us can improve as soon as possible.”

He said it would be a “tough night” for him, the team, the fans, “for all of us”. Things are also going badly for the former top team in the Bundesliga, with Bamberg having lost all four of their games this season.
