F1: Williams Seem Resigned to Failure

Williams F1 is lacking passion by David Coulthard

This season has been one to forget for the Williams F1 team and former driver David Coulthard has voiced his opinions on what is happening there. He has recently said: “I just don’t see the pain of failure that maybe we saw in the past.”

Coulthard goes on to add: “You can fool people about how you’re feeling, but you can’t fake passion. I’d love to see that passion come back to Williams.”

The highlight of the F1 season so far for Williams has been an eighth-place finish from Lance Stroll in Azerbaijan. Those were the only points that they have managed to accumulate in this hugely disappointing season. They sit firmly at the bottom of the Constructor Standings with just four points to show for their efforts.

David Coulthard talks about difficulties at McLaren

Coulthard was also talking about the situation at McLaren where race director Eric Boullier stepped down from his position last month and Gil de Ferran has taken his place in an attempt to shake things up. It is too late to do anything significant this F1 season but at least he will have time to put changes in place for next year.

Coulthard said: “It is confusing that they are going through such a difficult time, but it always comes down to people: the people with the power to design and build the car, have either not had the resources at their disposal, or they’ve misused those resources, and therefore they are accountable.”

He went on to say that he expects them to turn things around at McLaren but warned that is could be some time before that starts to happen.
