It had been in the works, and now the deal is done: Everton FC has signed top English talent Tyler Dibling from Southampton FC, paying a hefty sum for the privilege.
Everton’s interest in Tyler Dibling had been known for some time. However, negotiations with his club, Southampton FC, dragged on. The Saints had long hesitated to let the 19-year-old, whose contract ran until 2027, leave. He made his Premier League debut last season, going on to make 33 appearances (2 goals and 1 assist) and was considered one of the few bright spots for the relegated team, which had its second-worst season in Premier League history with only twelve points.
However, it was clear that the left-footed player, who mainly played on the right wing, wanted to continue playing in the English top flight – and that wish has now been fulfilled. Under David Moyes, he will now play for Everton FC – and Dibling is very happy. “I think the manager is perfect for me. He has obviously helped so many players who were in my situation. I’ve spoken to him and I know he’ll be good for me.“
Moyes thinks highly of Dibling
”He’s a talented young English player with a lot of potential,“ says Moyes of the top talent who ”expands our attacking options.” Everton FC’s plan is to build a team that “Everton fans will enjoy watching and be proud of—and Tyler can help us achieve that goal.”
The Toffees did not disclose the transfer fee, but according to English media reports, Everton is paying €40.5 million for the privilege—with bonuses, the total could rise to €46 million. The English junior international thus becomes the second most expensive transfer in the club’s history, with only Gylfi Sigurdsson costing more when he moved from Swansea City in 2017/18 for €49.4 million.
Dibling, meanwhile, is not only looking forward to the new coach, but also to his teammates, “from whom you can learn – real quality players like Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye.” Grealish in particular is likely to be a role model, as both players are exceptional dribblers. “I would say the wow factor in my game is my dribbling,” Dibling says of himself: “That’s what I do best, and that’s how I want to thrill the fans.”
