Anna Monta Olek missed out on a second gold medal for the German Judo Federation (DJB) at the European Championships in Podgorica, Montenegro. The 22-year-old lost to Portugal’s Patrícia Sampaio in the final of the 78 kg class. Olek had previously only competed in Junior and U23 European Championships and now won silver at the first minor highlight of the post-Olympic season.
On Thursday, Seija Ballhaus unexpectedly won Germany’s only medal so far with her victory over the number one seed, Eteri Liparteliani of Georgia, in the 57 kg class. Later on Saturday, Erik Abramov will fight for bronze in the 100 kg class.
