European Championships: German wrestlers out early

All three DRB starters suffered early defeats

On the second day of the European Championships in Bucharest, the German wrestlers had little to play for. The three Greco-Roman specialists Michael Widmayer (72 kg), Deni Nakayev (82) and Anton Vieweg (97) all suffered early defeats on Tuesday. Vieweg went furthest by reaching the quarter-finals and still has a chance of reaching the hopeful round.

No tickets for the Olympic Games in Paris (July 26 to August 11) will be awarded at the European Championships. The qualifying tournaments will take place from April 5 to 7 in Baku and from May 9 to 12 in Istanbul. The only Olympic ticket for the German Wrestling Federation (DRB) to date was won by Luisa Niemesch at last year’s World Championships
