Early exit for Siegemund in Doha

For Siegemund, it was her first appearance since her second-round exit at the Australian Open a good two weeks earlier.

Professional tennis player Laura Siegemund was eliminated in the first round of the high-stakes WTA tournament in Qatar’s capital, Doha. The 37-year-old lost 6-7 (3-7), 4-6 to French qualifier Varvara Gracheva on Sunday, leaving Tatjana Maria as the last remaining German in the hard court event. She will face 12th-seeded American Emma Navarro on Monday.

For Siegemund, it was her first appearance since her second-round exit at the Australian Open a good two weeks earlier. In Melbourne, she was the only German to make it past the first round.

The tournament in Doha is part of the WTA’s 1000 category and is therefore one of the most important events below the Grand Slams.
