“Don’t want to be associated with that”: Kings end historic losing streak

After 16 consecutive defeats, the Sacramento Kings finally emerged victorious again last night – it was the longest losing streak in the franchise’s history. The coach and players were relieved after the game.

The Californians had gone more than five weeks without a win. In their last victory on January 16 against the Wizards, Dennis Schröder was one of the top scorers with 15 points. Since then, the Kings had lost more games in a row than ever before in their history.

It was only against the injury-plagued Grizzlies that they put an end to their weeks-long slump. Veteran Russell Westbrook was the top scorer with 25 points, scoring ten points in the final quarter alone to seal the victory. Rookie Maxime Raynaud recorded his eleventh double-double of the season – no other rookie has more!

“We needed that,” Precious Achiuwa made clear. “It’s been a rough road for us in recent games. We actually played very well, but were just unlucky in the end. Today, however, we are proud, it feels good to win.”

When asked about the historic losing streak, Coach Doug Christie was initially happy that it had come to an end: “Of course, you don’t want something like that to be associated with you and your name.” With a 13-46 record, the Kings still have the worst season record – but the light should shine again today.
