Moritz Wagner will become a free agent again this summer. In his podcast, the Berlin native addressed the situation and stated that he currently has no plans.
It was another difficult year for Moritz Wagner, who was still dealing with the aftermath of his ACL tear and was only able to make his comeback in January after more than a year off, shortly before the Orlando Magic’s visit to Berlin.
“My top priority was really just to survive the season,” Wagner said on his podcast *Kannst du so nicht sagen*. “The frustration after Game 7 was obviously huge, but I also felt a certain sense of relief because the pressure weighing on me had been enormous.”
He was referring primarily to his serious injury, which had plagued him for two seasons. The Magic were eliminated in the first round for the third consecutive year. The Magic had led 3-1 against the Detroit Pistons but ultimately lost to the top seed in seven games, partly because Franz Wagner suffered an ankle injury in Game 4.
Will Wagner stay in Orlando?
His older brother Moritz, on the other hand, saw only sporadic action; the 29-year-old played just two games in the playoffs. Wagner was only in the rotation for Game 7, where he recorded five points and two rebounds in just under ten minutes.
Consequently, it remains unclear what the future holds for Wagner. The Berlin native will become a free agent after signing a one-year, $5 million contract with the Magic last summer despite his injury. “It’s pretty clear that things have to change when you don’t make it past the first round for three years in a row,” Wagner said, acknowledging the situation.
“I don’t know where my journey will take me; I’ll be completely honest. I don’t know if I’ll still be playing for the Magic next season,” Wagner continued. The German has been playing for Orlando since March 2021, making him the Magic’s longest-serving pro after Jonathan Isaac.
