Gianluigi Donnarumma’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain is becoming increasingly likely. The goalkeeper has now spoken out and expressed his disappointment.
“Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team’s success. I am disappointed and discouraged,” Gianluigi Donnarumma wrote on Tuesday about his current situation in a message on social media.
The PSG keeper had previously been dropped from the squad for Wednesday’s Super Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur in Udine. PSG coach Luis Enrique said it was his “own decision.” “I take full responsibility.” The coach wants a different type of goalkeeper but still considers Donnarumma to be “one of the best goalkeepers in the world.”
The 26-year-old’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires in June 2026. The club and player have not yet managed to agree on an extension, with the Italian number one reportedly rejecting previous offers.
This tricky situation has apparently led PSG officials to rethink their goalkeeping position. The club recently signed Lucas Chevalier from league rivals Lille for a lot of money. The goalkeeper cost a whopping 40 million euros, which could even rise to 55 million euros with bonuses.
“You will always be my brothers”
The signs between the current first-choice goalkeeper and the Champions League winner are clearly pointing to a departure, with Manchester City even said to have already made enquiries about Donnarumma at Paris.
“I hope that I can look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eye one more time and say goodbye properly,” wrote the goalkeeper. “If that doesn’t happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me and I will never forget it.”
The Paris team is like a “second family” to him. Donnarumma thanked his teammates for “every fight, every laugh, every moment together. You will always be my brothers.” It has been a “great honor” for him to play for PSG.
