The MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg have terminated the contract of US basketball player Marcus Garrett after less than a week. The 24-year-old point guard had already returned to his home country last week, the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday.
Only last Wednesday, the club had announced the signing until the summer of 2024. Garrett had played twelve games for the Miami Heat in the NBA in the 2021/22 season and now wanted to tackle his first stop in Europe. “He brings a new dimension to our team, is incredibly versatile, can defend four positions defensively,” coach Josh King had raved.
The club did not officially disclose the reasons for the separation. The cooperation is said to have failed in particular because of the fitness levels of the professional. “I can do better on the bike than Garrett,” chairman Alexander Reil told Bild.
