The FC Bayern Munich basketball team has also won the third game against MBC. This means that coach Gordon Herbert’s team is the first semifinalist in the BBL playoffs.
Bayern and Weißenfels have already faced each other three times in the regular season and the cup. Despite being clear favorites, Munich won only one of the games – and that was a close and highly controversial victory. However, similar problems have not arisen in the playoffs so far. Bayern won the first two games by 18 and 15 points respectively.
In the third match of the first round, FCBB had already earned its first match point. But MBC was not going to go down without a fight. The team from Saxony-Anhalt started with great confidence and also hit a high percentage of three-pointers from the start (44%).
Johannes Voigtmann gave Munich a small cushion for the first time in the middle of the second quarter (33:27) from the free throw line. However, a three-pointer from the strong Charles Callison (17, 6/13) put the visitors back in front shortly before the break (39:40). Bayern’s Devin Booker had the last word, though (42:40).
Lucic hits a three-pointer at the buzzer
Bayern got off to a better start in the second half. The home side’s iron defense made the big difference, repeatedly exploiting it to their advantage in transition. Captain Vladimir Lucic (19, 7/9) took on more and more responsibility. With the quarter coming to an end, the Serbian even put his team up by 13 (67:55) with a three-pointer.
The MBC seemed unable to recover from this in the final quarter. This was also due to the fact that top scorer Michael Devoe was completely shut down by Defensive Player of the Year Weiler-Babb (11/5/5) (9, 5/15). In addition, Bayern shot a strong 43 percent from beyond the arc (12/28) over the course of the game.
Bayern is thus the first team to qualify for the semifinals of the BBL playoffs. They will face either Chemnitz or Heidelberg, with the latter currently leading the series 2-0. Game 3 will take place on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. (exclusively on Dyn).
