Charr has to cancel his world title fight

Mahmoud Charr will have to wait even longer for his first title defense as world boxing champion

Mahmoud Charr will have to wait even longer for his first title defense as world boxing champion. As the 39-year-old announced on his social media channels on Thursday evening, his fight against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulew, scheduled for March 30 in Sofia, has to be postponed due to a torn biceps tendon. Charr suffered the injury in training.

The German professional boxer with Syrian-Lebanese roots is the regular heavyweight world champion according to the WBA version, but the association holds two world titles. The belt of the super champion, which is clearly superior, is held by the Ukrainian Alexander Usyk.

Charr won his WBA title in 2017 against the Russian Alexander Ustinov. Since then, he has had several title defenses, but these have always fallen through. In the meantime, Charr was even stripped of his world championship belt. However, following a complaint by Charr and his team, the World Boxing Association awarded the title back to the Beirut-born fighter.
