Champions Barcelona kick off in Mallorca – Clásico at the end of October

On Tuesday evening, the Spanish Football Federation announced the schedule for the coming season. The Clásico between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona will take place on matchdays 10 and 35.

In his first season as coach of FC Barcelona, Hansi Flick won the championship with the Catalans. Now, the former national coach is embarking on a mission with FCB that Ernesto Valverde last accomplished in La Liga in the 2018/19 season: The current coach of Athletic Bilbao was the last coach to successfully defend the title in Spain – back then with Barca.

The Blaugrana want to take the first step towards another championship at RCD Mallorca – because since Tuesday evening, it has been known that the club from the Balearic island will be Barca’s opponent on the first of a total of 38 matchdays. As announced by the RFEF, the 2025/26 season will kick off around the weekend of August 17.

Meanwhile, runners-up and arch-rivals Real Madrid will start the new season with a home game. The Royals, currently in the Club World Cup in the USA, finished four points behind FCB. They will face CA Osasuna in their opening game.

Clasico return leg on matchday 35

La Liga will then attract worldwide attention on matchday 10 at the latest, when Barcelona and Real face each other in a direct duel. The first leg of the Clasico, played in the Spanish capital, will take place on the weekend of October 26. The two teams will meet again on matchday 35 in early May at the renovated Camp Nou in Barcelona, shortly before the end of the season and possibly at the height of the title race.

Last year, Barca won both games. The first leg ended in a clear 4-0 victory, while the second leg was a spectacular 4-3 draw.
