Celtics Trade Brown to Philadelphia—George Comes in Return

Rumors about a trade involving Jaylen Brown have been circulating for weeks. As “ESPN” now reports, Boston has negotiated a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics are sending the 29-year-old to Pennsylvania in exchange for four draft picks and Paul George.

Jaylen Brown has had an NBA season full of career highs. The 29-year-old averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game, finished sixth in the MVP voting, and was selected to the 2025–26 All-NBA Second Team, while leading the Boston Celtics to a 56-win season that ended in the first round of the playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers.

But after ten years with the Celtics, Brown is now leaving the team: As ESPN reports, Boston has negotiated a spectacular deal with the very same 76ers, sending Brown to their direct Eastern Conference rival in Pennsylvania in exchange for Paul George and four draft picks. According to insider Shams Charania, the deal involves the 2028 first-round pick, the unprotected 2031 first-round pick, the 2028 second-round pick, and the 2030 second-round pick.

The Celtics Wanted Antetokounmpo

Rumors about Brown leaving Boston had been circulating for weeks. Reportedly, the Celtics would have liked to sign Giannis Antetokounmpo and offered their co-superstar as part of the deal. However, the Greek star instead joined the Miami Heat, and since then, the search for a new trade partner has been in full swing. The 36-year-old George averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists last season.

Brown joined the Celtics in 2016 as the third overall pick out of the University of California. Since then, Boston has reached the NBA Finals twice; in 2024, they defeated the Dallas Mavericks 4-1, and Brown was named Finals MVP. His 142 playoff games since entering the NBA are the most of any player in the league during that span. With the 76ers, he will play alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
