Leeds United vs Bolton Wanderers

The first round of the Carabao Cup starts tonight with some very exciting fixtures including the ‘War of the Roses’ Yorkshire vs Lancashire fixture between Leeds and Bolton. Both teams have a long history and are striving to get back to the pinnacle of English football.

This season could be the year for them to fight their way out of the Championship. Leeds have won their first two matches and Bolton have won one match with one draw. Now the momentum from their Championship form will be put on hold as they turn their attention to progressing in the Carabao Cup.

Team News

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa is expected to make a series of changes to his team, giving his new goalkeeper Jamal Blackman a start between the sticks. There will be debuts for Lewis Baker, Patrick Bamford and Jack Harrison too.

Bolton has snapped up Jonathan Grounds on loan from Norwich and brought in a new goalkeeper in the shape of Remi Matthews, both of whom could feature at Elland Road. Jack Hobbs and Mark Little could also be handed a start for the Wanderers.

Current form

Leeds enjoyed a comfortable 3-1 win against Stoke City in The Potters’ first Championship game following their relegation from the Premier League. They then hammered Frank Lampard’s Derby County 4-1, so they will be going into tonight’s match full of confidence.

Bolton also recorded a winning start to the season with a last-gasp win over newly relegated West Brom. They were then held to a draw against Bristol City at home, with Bristol looking the more dangerous team.

Head to head results

Last season Leeds United won both Championship fixtures, with a 3-2 win at Bolton at the start of the season and a 2-1 victory in March.
