Every year, the MotoGP summer break brings the same images: the sea, luxury, and perfectly staged vacation posts—but Cal Crutchlow is now offering a different take
MotoGP is on its summer break, and the riders’ social media feeds currently look surprisingly similar: sun, sea, a yacht, plus a shirtless vacation photo. Whether it’s relaxing days in the Mediterranean or luxury against a dreamlike backdrop, many riders are letting their fans in on their time off.
One rider who’s commenting on the trend with a wink is, of all people, Cal Crutchlow. The Brit, known for his dry sense of humor, also posted a “yacht photo”—but one that doesn’t fit the usual summer posing at all.
“I just wanted to share my yacht photo during the MotoGP summer break to keep up with the other riders!” Crutchlow writes in his Instagram post. In the photo, the 40-year-old is sitting in a small fishing boat on a rather gray-looking sandy beach amid typical Irish lousy weather.
He can’t resist adding a postscript: “Sorry I didn’t take my shirt off to flex my abs. It was just too cold.”
The photo isn’t some polished, glossy influencer setup—instead, it delightfully pokes fun at his colleagues’ yacht snapshots. Typical Crutchlow: self-deprecating, deadpan, and with just the right dose of British humor that fans have come to appreciate throughout his entire MotoGP career.
But it’s not just the fans who are celebrating him for this in the comments. KTM rider Pedro Acosta, for example, writes: “You’re my hero, buddy!” Yamaha rider Fabio Quartararo is also amused and comments succinctly: “Number 1!”
Since Mugello, Crutchlow has been filling in for the injured Johann Zarco at LCR-Honda. The three-time MotoGP winner was already known during his time as an active regular rider for giving interviews without PR clichés and for never taking himself too seriously. Apparently, nothing has changed in that regard over the years.
