Sebastian Kehl has not worked for Borussia Dortmund for six and a half weeks. Now, both sides have apparently agreed on a severance package.
As Ruhr Nachrichten and Bild both report, Borussia Dortmund has agreed with its former sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, to terminate his contract. The contract was originally set to run until June 30, 2027, but Kehl had been relieved of his duties since March 22 of this year. He is reportedly set to be officially bid farewell this Friday before the home game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to the reports, the 46-year-old will receive a severance package of 1.5 million euros. More important for Kehl, however, is likely the fact that this will allow him to take on a new position immediately. About two weeks ago, there was speculation that Tottenham Hotspur was seriously considering signing Kehl for a directorial role. The Spurs are having a disastrous season but managed to climb back above the relegation zone in the Premier League over the weekend.
