Burnley win relegation thriller against Everton in closing stages

In an immensely important game, Burnley FC win late against Everton FC. The home side moved to within one point of the Toffees in 17th place. Under Lampard, it is the seventh defeat in nine Premier League games for the visitors.

Nineteenth in the table welcomed seventh in the table and while Burnley know the relegation battle, there was actually more planned for Everton this season. Frank Lampard joined the Toffees in early February and was expected to turn things around. But even under the ex-Chelsea FC player and coach, things have not been going well for the Liverpool club lately.

Richarlison scores twice from the spot

About the game: Burnley took the fight of the basement duel from the start and quickly took the lead. Following a corner, Collins got to the ball at the second post and somehow slotted it through the crowd past Pickford to make it 1-0 (12th). But the Toffees responded quickly: Richarlison loaded Pope from the spot and slid in for the equaliser (18th).

And it almost looked as if the Brazilian could become the match-winner. Shortly before the break, Richarlison stepped up again from the spot and single-handedly turned the game around (41st). Again Pope jumped into the wrong corner.

Rodriguez and Cornet turn the game around

After the break, however, Sean Dyche’s boys reared back: First Rodriguez, who only had to keep his foot out from close range (57th), then shortly before the end Cornet (85th), who turned the stadium into a madhouse, turned the game around. The winning goal was perfectly served in the penalty area and he coolly shot in.

With the important win, Burnley stalked within a point of the Toffees and 17th place and halted their run of four straight defeats. The visitors, on the other hand, remained in crisis with the defeat and lost for the seventh time in their ninth Premier League game under Lampard.
