Marco Bezzecchi is back on the bike following his serious crash at the Sachsenring and is aiming for a MotoGP comeback at Silverstone
Marco Bezzecchi has taken the next important step toward his MotoGP comeback. The Aprilia factory rider completed his first practice session this week at the Misano circuit following his serious crash at the German Grand Prix.
However, the Italian was not riding his MotoGP bike but a stock Aprilia RSV4, completing a total of four runs.
Aprilia confirmed the test in a brief statement: “Marco Bezzecchi completed a session yesterday at the Misano circuit with four laps on his RSV4.” The test is an important step in the World Championship rider’s rehabilitation.
He had undergone surgery on his left collarbone less than three weeks ago. “His rehabilitation program is proceeding as planned. His next appointment will be at Silverstone, where he will undergo a medical examination by the MotoGP medical team,” Aprilia added.
Whether Bezzecchi will actually be able to compete in the upcoming British Grand Prix depends on final medical clearance from MotoGP Medical Director Dr. Angel Charte. If the Italian receives the green light, he could return to the track as early as the next race.
Severe Crash at the Sachsenring
The forced break was triggered by a violent crash at the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring. On July 11, Bezzecchi crashed heavily during qualifying and was subsequently taken to the Medical Center for examination.
The diagnosis: a fracture of the left collarbone. The Aprilia rider traveled directly back to Italy before undergoing surgery on Sunday morning. The procedure was performed by Dr. Giuseppe Porcellini at Sassuolo University Hospital. “The fracture was set and stabilized,” the team announced after the surgery.
In addition to the clavicle surgery on July 12, Bezzecchi also underwent a minor routine procedure on his left knee. During the procedure, a wound he had sustained in the same crash was cleaned.
“We’d like to provide a brief update on Marco, who underwent routine surgery this Saturday to clean the wound on his left knee. He sustained this injury during his crash at the Sachsenring,” the Aprilia factory team reported on July 18.
Bezzecchi Aims to Return to the Title Fight
Bezzecchi had initially started the 2026 season in strong form. He won four of the first seven Grands Prix and led the World Championship until the race at Assen.
However, a series of crashes and accidents in the run-up to the summer break cost him crucial points. In the last four MotoGP Sunday races before the break, Bezzecchi failed to score any points and consequently dropped from the top of the World Championship standings to fourth place. He currently trails by 22 points.
With eleven Grands Prix still to go, the Italian now has the opportunity to re-enter the fight for the 2026 MotoGP World Championship title. The first step has been taken: Bezzecchi is back on the bike.
