Mehdi Taremi has been unable to get a flight from Iran to the US and will therefore miss Inter Milan’s opening match of the Club World Cup.
Inter Milan will have to do without striker Mehdi Taremi for the start of the Club World Cup. The Iranian is stuck in his home country because the 32-year-old couldn’t get a flight to the US due to the escalating conflict with Israel. Inter confirmed this to the AFP news agency. Taremi last played for Iran’s national team in the World Cup qualifier against North Korea (3-0).
Israel and Iran continued their mutual attacks on Saturday night. Israel launched an unprecedented large-scale attack on military targets in Iran on Friday. Iranian airspace has been closed until further notice, according to the official news agency IRNA.
Inter will face CF Monterrey from Mexico in the first match of the Club World Cup on Wednesday at 3 a.m. CEST in Los Angeles. For the Italians, it will be their first match since losing the Champions League final to Paris Saint-Germain (0-5).
