As expected, Daniel Peretz (25) will not be returning to Munich from his loan spell in England. Southampton FC has signed the Israeli to a contract running through 2030—even though he had other options.
Manuel Neuer, Jonas Urbig, Sven Ulreich—and, as things stand, Alexander Nübel as well: Bayern Munich is more than well-stocked in the goalkeeper position for the upcoming season. Therefore, it was obvious that Daniel Peretz would not return to Munich’s first-team squad this summer.
It has been clear since Friday: The Israeli will remain with Southampton FC in England’s second division. The Saints, who recently missed out on promotion to the Premier League due to a spying scandal, have secured Peretz’s services through 2030 and are paying a transfer fee to Bayern. According to reports, this fee is between seven and eight million euros.
“Especially in recent weeks, when we had to stick together, that feeling of home was very much in the air,” Peretz said of his decision: “That was the deciding factor for me. Yes, it’s my dream to play in the Premier League and on the world’s biggest stages, but even more important to me is the dream of achieving this together with Southampton.”
In the first half of the season, Peretz came up short at HSV
The Saints had actually reached the playoff final and were set to face Hull City in the high-stakes match for 20th place in the English Premier League, but then they lost that right at the negotiating table.
Peretz, who also holds German citizenship, has appeared in 26 matches for Southampton since early January. Prior to that, he had spent the first half of the season on loan at Hamburger SV, where he lost out to Daniel Heuer Fernandes in the competition for a starting spot.
“We were already aware of Daniel’s qualities when we signed him on loan in January, and his influence on the team was obvious to everyone,” says Johannes Spors, the Saints’ German technical director: “He exudes a confidence in his own abilities that rubs off on his teammates. After the season ended, I had several conversations with Daniel. It became clear that he is fully committed to us—even though other options were open to him.”
