Italian tennis pro Lorenzo Musetti continues to be plagued by injuries, especially when it comes to Grand Slam tournaments. The clay-court specialist will not compete in the French Open in Paris (starting May 24).
The world No. 10 announced this on Wednesday via Instagram. A thigh injury requires “a few weeks of rest.” The injury occurred during his loss to Casper Ruud in the round of 16 at the Rome Masters on Tuesday.
“This news is incredibly hard to take,” Musetti wrote. Last year in Paris, he had reached the semifinals against Carlos Alcaraz but had to withdraw due to injury.
French Open: Defending champion Alcaraz also had to withdraw due to injury
In the spring of 2026, Musetti also reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open against Novak Djokovic and won the first two sets before his thigh also gave out. The former world No. 5 will therefore also not participate in the ATP tournament in Hamburg next week as planned.
In Paris, defending champion Alcaraz is also absent due to his wrist injury. The top favorite is therefore world No. 1 Jannik Sinner (Italy). Germany’s No. 1, Alexander Zverev, continues to hope for his first Grand Slam title.
