German tennis player Eva Lys has been knocked out in the first round of the WTA tournament in Seoul. Lys (24) lost to Romania’s Gabriela Ruse in the South Korean capital 1-6, 2-6; in what was a generally poor performance, the Hamburg native achieved far too little, particularly on her own serve.
Tennis: Lys squanders break points
Lys lost the first set in a flash, failing to hold a single service game. Not much changed afterwards either. After 1 hour and 9 minutes, Ruse converted her second match point; Lys had previously squandered two break points.
For the world number 100, this is yet another early exit; just a few days ago, she had at least reached the round of 16 in São Paulo, Brazil, following a victory. Lys had also made it through to the second round at the US Open earlier this month. In South Korea, Lys was the only German competitor.
