Another change in the Davis Cup – group stage in September

Madrid – The Davis Cup will be held in four different venues in mid-September.
After the qualifying matches at the beginning of March, the subsequent group phase will take place in four different venues in mid-September this year, according to the World Tennis Association and the organising agency Kosmos. The four cities will be decided at a later date. The final round with quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final will then be held from 23 to 27 November at a venue also to be decided.

The last time the title was awarded in the prestigious team competition was in Madrid. Last year, the German team was defeated by Russia in the semi-finals. Olympic champion Alexander Zverev did not play because he disliked the mode.

It is unclear whether the German number one would now be available from 14 to 18 September when the group stage is played. The date is directly between the US Open (29 August to 11 September) and the Laver Cup (23-25 September). Germany, however, must first qualify for the group stage with a win in Brazil at the beginning of March. Zverev will not play in Rio de Janeiro
