Andrew Gaff narrows down choice to West Coast and North Melbourne

Andrew-Gaff

Robbie D’Orazio, Andrew Gaff’s agent, confirmed on Tuesday morning that his client narrowed down the choice of clubs where he will play next season to West Coast and North Melbourne. This news doesn’t come as a surprise, considering Gaff repeatedly reiterated North Melbourne was the only team he would leave West Coast for. At the moment, he’s weighing up the two contract offers. He’ll need to make a final decision during this month’s AFL trade period.

West Coast Eagles win first premiership trophy since 2006, Gaff misses the game due to suspension

A host of Victorian clubs were interested in acquiring the 26-year-old outside midfielder, who still hasn’t recovered emotionally from a turbulent season. Gaff was suspended for eight matches after punching Andrew Brayshaw in round 20 and breaking his jaw. The ban meant he had to watch from the sidelines as his West Coast teammates lifted the Premiership title after defeating Collingwood in Saturday’s grand final. The Eagles had to recover from an early deficit on their way to a 79-74 victory and their first AFL title since 2006.

“We’ve done it the hard way this year … we can’t wait to bring that cup home,” – Eagles coach Adam Simpson

Andrew Gaff was visibly distraught during West Coast’s celebrations, smiling and crying at the same time.

“His team’s just won a premiership and he couldn’t be part of it, so he’s working through that with his family and his partner.”

Andrew Gaff to announce decision whenever he’s ready

Gaff was having an outstanding campaign prior to the incident, which is why he’s such a sought-after player. The 2015 John Worsfold Medal winner was named in the All-Australian team for the second time this year and the decision of where he’ll play next is totally up to him. Regardless of his decision, he’ll have to sit out the first two games of the 2019 season due to the aforementioned suspension.
