“An honor”: Haas brings Williams to Indian Wells

The 45-year-old accepts the invitation from German tournament director Tommy Haas.

Former tennis champion Venus Williams will continue to compete on the WTA Tour. The 45-year-old winner of seven Grand Slam titles accepted the wild card offered by German tournament director Tommy Haas for the $9.4 million hard court event in Indian Wells (March 4-15). The former Davis Cup player described the opportunity to invite the US icon as “an honor.”

Williams set the record for the oldest participant in the first major tournament of the year at the Australian Open last month. However, Williams was eliminated in the first round in Melbourne.
