After Supercup scandal: Fenerbahce fined

Fenerbahce has been fined a six-figure sum following the forced abandonment of the match in the Turkish Supercup. Galatasaray were awarded the title at the green table

Fenerbahce recently caused a scandal in the national Super Cup. As announced, the traditional club had sent its U19s to Sanliurfa for the final against Galatasaray – and abandoned the match in the second minute. The penalty was announced on Thursday: Fenerbahce must pay 115,000 euros, while the Turkish Football Association also awarded rivals Galatasaray a 3-0 win at the green table and thus their 18th title.

Fener wanted to send out a signal against alleged unfair treatment with this bizarre protest action in the dispute with the national association TFT, which has been smouldering for months. On the one hand, the club had unsuccessfully requested a postponement of the Super Cup clash with arch-rivals Olympiakos Piraeus ahead of their first Conference League quarter-final on Thursday. On the other hand, Fenerbahce’s request for a foreign referee also remained unfulfilled.
