After MotoGP finale in Valencia: Fabio Quartararo plans finger surgery

Fabio Quartararo will undergo “minor” surgery on his left middle finger after the season finale in Valencia – Everything is said to be fine so far

Fabio Quartararo suffered a finger injury in a crash during Saturday’s fourth free practice session at the Malaysian Grand Prix. He bruised the middle finger of his left hand. He was also found to have a hairline fracture in a bone.

After the crash, Quartararo rode qualifying, and on Sunday he raced to a third-place podium finish in the race. The damaged finger didn’t cause him much trouble during the race. “The riding itself was not a problem,” he said.

“But it’s a track where the ride-height system is used a lot. And that is operated with this hand. But with a bit of medicine and the adrenaline, it was no problem,” said the Frenchman. After the Grand Prix he cooled his left hand with an ice pack.

Quartararo announced after the race that he would have a more detailed examination at home. Now it has been announced that he will have a minor operation in the days after the season finale in Valencia after all. Probably after the important test day on Tuesday.

“Good, everything is fine,” is the word from the Yamaha camp. “He has had his tests and there will be a small procedure. But it’s not urgent, which is why he won’t do it until after Valencia.”

Quartararo still has a theoretical world championship chance at the season finale on November 6. If he wins and Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) finishes no better than 14th, the Yamaha rider would have succeeded in defending his world title.
