After MotoGP exit: Darryn Binder’s goal for 2023 is “clearly Moto2”.

Darryn Binder has six races left in MotoGP, then the rookie will have to look elsewhere – The stated goal is to move to Moto2

For Darryn Binder, the latest MotoGP test in Misano was the last in the premier class for the time being. Because after this season it’s already over for the rookie. RNF-Yamaha did not extend him and instead signed rookie colleague Raul Fernandez and KTM rookie Miguel Oliveira.

This means that Binder suffers the same fate as Remy Gardner, who also has to leave MotoGP after just one year. While he was promoted as the reigning Moto2 champion, Binder came straight from Moto3 and didn’t do too badly.

Twice he managed to finish in the points. In the rain race in Indonesia, the South African even finished a strong tenth. Compared to his much more experienced team-mate Andrea Dovizioso, he is currently only five points and one position behind the Italian in the world championship standings.

In addition, all the Yamaha riders have struggled with the current M1 this season, with the exception of World Championship leader Fabio Quartararo. And when you consider that Binder skipped Moto2 to move straight up to MotoGP, the 24-year-old’s performance is all the more creditable.

Despite this, it should not be enough for another season. But Binder already has a pretty clear idea of the future: “My plan is to go into Moto2 next year. My manager is working on securing a good spot for me.”

“I think we are getting closer and closer to that. I should have certainty soon about where it’s going for me. But the goal is definitely Moto2,” the MotoGP rookie clarifies. That means he will have to get used to a class that is new to him again. The biggest difference will probably be the speed, he believes.

“After riding this bike, I don’t think anything will feel really fast,” laughs Binder. “Especially the take-offs. They are the best thing about a MotoGP bike. “
