Carlos Alcaraz drops another set at Wimbledon. Nevertheless, the top favorite is aiming for his third title in a row and would join the ranks of legends.
Top favorite Carlos Alcaraz ultimately reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon with ease after initial problems. The defending champion from Spain defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4, dropping a set as he did in the previous round against Jan-Lennard Struff.
This means that Alcaraz, world number one Jannik Sinner from Italy and Serbian Grand Slam record winner Novak Djokovic are currently the three biggest names still in the men’s draw. Sinner and Djokovic will play their quarterfinals on Monday.
Alcaraz could become third youngest player to win Wimbledon triple
Alcaraz will now face Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinals. The Brit thrilled fans with a great fight in his 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (7-9), 6-7 (5-7), 6-3 victory over Chilean qualifier Nicholas Jarry.
At 22, Alcaraz could become the third-youngest male tennis player in professional history to win three Wimbledon titles. Only Boris Becker (21) and Sweden’s Björn Borg (22) were younger.
