Adams switches to foster father Marsch

RB Leipzig have taken a first significant step forward in their efforts to thin out their XXL squad. Midfielder Tyler Adams (23) moves to Leeds United.

The US national team captain is expected to undergo medical tests at the Premier League club this Tuesday. The transfer fee for Adams, who still had a contract in Leipzig until 2025, is up to 23 million euros. In Leeds he will meet his foster father Jesse Marsch, who was already his coach in New York and Leipzig.

Adams joined Leipzig from New York in January 2019, it was the only successful move between the two sister clubs in Red Bull’s football empire so far. He played 101 competitive matches for Leipzig.

He had his most significant scene on 13 August 2020 when he scored the 2-1 winner against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals to open the door to the semi-finals against Paris St Germain.

After parting ways with Marsch and signing Domenico Tedesco, Adams had a difficult time in Leipzig from a sporting point of view, and this would not have changed in the new season. On the contrary: In Xaver Schlager, another competitor was signed for the already overstaffed central midfield, so the change was in the best interests of the player and the club.
