“A true Liverpool legend”: Robertson leaves the Reds at the end of the season

For nine years, Andrew Robertson was an integral part of the Liverpool FC squad, winning everything there is to win with the club. Now it’s the end of the season for the Scot at Anfield Road.

Andrew “Andy” Robertson has been an integral part of Liverpool FC’s left-back position for many years. The 32-year-old has donned the Reds’ shirt since 2017, making 373 appearances to date and winning everything there is to win with the club. His CV includes a Champions League victory in 2019 as well as two English championships (2020 and 2025). He also won the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup with LFC, as well as appearing in two other top flight finals.

The Scottish national team captain’s career will now end at least once with the Reds. As the club announced on Thursday, Robertson will leave Liverpool at the end of the season at the end of his contract. He is leaving “as a true Liverpool legend, having played a crucial role in the successes of recent years in his 373 appearances to date”, LFC wrote on its website to mark his departure.

Liverpool still have big plans

The tribute to the Scot, who was signed from Hull City in 2017 and quickly became a regular, will have to wait a little longer. Liverpool still have important games ahead of them and still want to achieve great things in the Champions League, although the 2-0 first-leg defeat at PSG in the quarter-finals – Robertson was only substituted for Milos Kerkez in the 78th minute – was a severe setback. And there is still a lot at stake in the league too, with coach Arne Slot’s team in fifth place and still just in the hunt for a CL place.

World Cup on the horizon for Robertson

Robertson was still a regular at Liverpool last season and played a key role in winning the Premier League. Recently, however, he was overtaken by Kerkez and usually only came on as a substitute. Alongside Mohamed Salah, who also joined LFC in 2017, Robertson is the second player from the Jürgen Klopp era to leave the club.

What the future holds for Robertson is not yet known. There were rumors about Tottenham Hotspur in the winter. The only certainty is that an absolute highlight awaits the Glasgow native at the end of this season. He will captain his national team at the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico after Scotland qualified with a 4-2 win over Denmark on the final day of qualifying. It will be Scotland’s first World Cup appearance since 1998.
