Former world number one Daniil Medvedev behaved badly at the US Open.
Former world number one Daniil Medvedev has been fined a total of $42,500 (€37,000) for his spectacular outburst at the US Open in New York. This was announced by the organizers.
The 29-year-old must pay $30,000 for his unsportsmanlike behavior during his first-round defeat to Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi, and another $12,500 for destroying a racket.
Medvedev became extremely agitated after a photographer marched onto the court during Bonzi’s match point in the third set. Medvedev managed to save himself in the fifth set, but lost there—and lost his temper again.
